Mysore/Mysuru: Members of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) Resident Doctors’ Association staged a protest in the College premises here yesterday condemning assault on junior doctors working in the Covid Ward.
According to agitating doctors, on Sunday night, a Corona positive patient died in Covid ward and his relatives wanted to come inside the Ward to see the body. However, when they were prevented from doing so as per the guidelines, some persons not only broke the glass windows but also assaulted junior doctors on duty.
At present, there is only one private security guard posted near the Ward and he will be helpless if there is a big crowd, said the doctors who are terrified with the attack.
Dr. B. Shivanand, Vice-President of the Association, who also addressed the striking doctors, demanded protection for duty doctors. The strike had hit the Hospital services.
On receiving information, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Dr. A.N. Prakash Gowda visited the spot and promised to deploy Police at the Covid Ward to prevent such incidents in future.
Based on the assurance, Resident Doctors called off their stir and resumed duty.
