‘At least one member of a family should join Armed Forces’

Mysore/Mysuru: Ex-serviceman Anthony George observed that at least one member of family should join the Armed Forces for serving the nation.

He was speaking at the Independence Day celebration organised under the aegis of Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at St. Anne’s  Girls High School in N.R. Mohalla here yesterday.

Pointing out that Army does not mean only soldiers, Anthony George said that the Armed forces of the country provides ample opportunities in various capacities for young and qualified youths to occupy top positions in different wings. With the availability of ample opportunities, the youths should come forward to join the Armed Forces, he added.

Field Publicity Officer S.T. Shruthi, who delivered the keynote address, said that the Centre was promoting various programmes that enhance patriotism among the citizens.

Bharat Seva Dal’s Resource Person Sheshachala too spoke and highlighted the significance of the National Flag.

Anthony George, who retired after serving the Army for 22 years, was felicitated on the occasion.

The winners of fancy dress contest with the theme ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat,’ drawing and speech contests, held as part of I-Day, were distributed prizes.

Arunodaya folk troupe and school students presented a variety of cultural programmes.

Field Publicity Assistant Darshan, St. Anne’s School Principal Sister Lilly Peter, Manager Sr. Annette, faculty Sr. Helena Joseph, Sr. Mariott and other teachers were present.
