Atrocities against women: Several organisations, students hold protest rallies in city

Mysuru: Several women’s organisations and students held separate rallies in protest against the atrocities being reported against women in various parts of the country, here yesterday.

The members of Mahilodaya Mahila Okkuta, Mysuru, students of Teresian College, members of Inner Wheel Club of Mysore Midtown and Indian Medical Association (IMA), Mysuru, took out protest rallies to condemn the acts of rape and murder of a woman doctor in R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, alleged gang rape of a young woman in Dehradun in Uttarakhand and alleged rape of a girl student in HSR Layout in Bengaluru.

The protesters alleged that though there have been strict laws against women atrocities, the Governments have failed to implement them and the cases of atrocities against women are being reported from various parts of the country on a daily basis.

Demanding for a stringent action against the accused, the protesters urged the authorities to provide adequate security at women’s and girls hostels to ensure their safety, fast disposal of cases in Courts to punish the culprits. They also urged the Governments to ensure that the guilty were subjected to rigorous punishments.
