Mysuru: In separate incidents, miscreants have attempted to snatch chains from a youth and a 50-year-old woman in city.
While the public managed to catch hold of one miscreant, the Police have launched a hunt to nab the other.
In the first incident, a miscreant, who attempted to snatch a chain, is cooling his heels at a Police Station after the public caught him and handed him over to the Police on Sunday evening.
The incident took place in front of Maharani’s Junior College on Krishna Vilas Road here and the accused has been identified as Syed Ahmed, a resident of Shanthinagar in city.
At about 6.45 pm, on Sunday, Girish, a resident of Devaraja Mohalla, along with his friends was having gobi manchuri at a shop in front of the College when Girish’s mobile phone fell down from his pocket.
When Girish bent down to pick up his phone, Syed, who was standing nearby, allegedly tried to snatch the gold chain of Girish, who caught hold of Syed’s hand.
However, Syed, who managed to free his hand, began to run from the spot only to be chased by the public, who caught him and informed the Police.
The Police, who arrived at the spot, took custody of Syed. A case has been registered in this regard.
In the second incident, a miscreant made a vain bid to snatch the gold chain of a 50-year-old woman near Mahadevapura last bus top in city last night.
Dhanalakshmi, a resident of Mahadevapura, was crossing the railway track at a level-crossing near the last bus stop, when bike-borne miscreants, who came from behind, tried to snatch the gold chain and flee.
However, Dhanalakshmi, caught hold of her chain tightly and began to scream, which attracted passersby. The miscreants who saw people rushing towards them, managed to flee from the spot, according to Vidyaranyapuram Police.
