Two from West Bengal arrested
Periyapatna: Two persons from West Bengal have been handed over to the Police for trying to cheat a areca nut trader in the guise of giving foreign currencies. The trader himself caught the two persons and handed them to the Police.
Those arrested are 38-year-old Sheik Meeraj and 28-year-old Sheik Rubel from West Bengal while the trader, who caught them, is 43-year-old Ravi of Periyapatna.
The duo called Ravi from mobile number 82729-05394 and told him that they had many foreign currencies with them and if he (Ravi) gives Rs. 200 for a foreign currency worth Rs. 1,000, he could make a profit of Rs. 800.
After Ravi accepted their proposal, the duo told him to come near Tatanahalli Gate in Periyapatna town.
When went to the spot, he found the two with a bag and holding a foreign currency in the hand. They told Ravi that if he gives Indian currencies, they would give him the foreign currency notes. But when Ravi told them to show the foreign currencies in the bag, they hesitated to show him.
Sensing something fishy, Ravi, with the help of Manjunath from a nearby canteen and fruit vendor Akhal Shariff, caught hold of the two and handed them over to the Police.
On inspecting the bag, soaps wrapped in paper were found instead of foreign currencies.
The Police, who arrested the two persons, produced them before a Court which remanded them to judicial custody.
