Attempt to murder: Brothers sentenced to jail

Mysuru: The First Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man and his brother to jail for attempting to murder their cousin over land dispute.

The bothers who have been sentenced to jail are 24-year-old K.J. Nagesh and his brother 19-year-old Umesh, residents of Kempisiddanahundi village in Nanjangud taluk. While Umesh has been sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.20,000, his brother Nagesh has been sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.5,000.

Nagesh and Umesh had encroached the farm land of their cousin Shivananjappa and had cultivated it. When Shivananjappa and his brother Nagaraju questioned it, Umesh had assaulted Shivananjappa with a machete and his brother Nagaraju had sustained minor injuries on Jan.3, 2014.

Following the incident, Nanjangud Rural Police had filed a charge-sheet against the duo at the Court. Judge Sudheendra Nath, who heard the arguments on Friday, found the brothers guilty of the crime and pronounced the judgment.
