Mysore/Mysuru: Hit hard by the loss of income due to COVID-19 lockdown, the city auto drivers have sought financial support and ration from the Government.
In a memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar at his office recently, Mysuru Autorickshaw Drivers Association said that there are nearly 30,000 auto drivers and owners in the city, who earned their daily bread by ferrying passengers.
But now due to lockdown, there has been no source of income for them, which has jeopardised their livelihood. As such the Government should extend monetary benefits to them just as in the case of construction workers who have got Rs.2,000 each from the Government. Also, the Government should provide them free ration and come to the rescue of their families, that are struggling to lead life in the absence of any income, the memorandum said.
Association President M. Mahadevaswamy and other office-bearers were present.
