First MitraClip valve repair procedure performed
Mysuru: Avant bkg hospitals, located at Bogadi, Mysuru, has successfully completed its ‘first MitraClip valve repair procedure,’ a revolutionary treatment for patients suffering from mitral valve regurgitation.
The procedure was led by the Hospital’s Chief Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. Rajagopal Jambunathan, marking a significant breakthrough in cardiac care for the city of Mysuru and the State of Karnataka.
Mitral regurgitation, a condition characterised by the leaking of the mitral valve, is one of the leading causes of heart failure. Traditionally, this condition has been treated through open-heart surgery, which poses significant risks, especially for patients with weakened hearts.
The MitraClip offers a minimally invasive alternative by repairing the valve via a small puncture in the groin, significantly reducing recovery time and the risk of complications.
Avant bkg hospitals is among the few in Karnataka equipped with the technology and expertise to perform this procedure.
Addressing the media at the Hospital premises recently, Dr. Rajagopal Jambunathan stated, “This ground-breaking procedure is a game-changer for patients with heart failure caused by mitral valve regurgitation. The MitraClip allows us to effectively seal the valve leakage without the need for open-heart surgery, improving patient outcomes and recovery times. We are proud to be the first in Mysuru to bring this advanced technology.”
The hospital’s state-of-the-art Cath Lab, equipped with cutting-edge technology, has made such advanced procedures possible. The facility also offers the first 4D Echo Cardiogram and 4D Transesophageal Echo in the city, further enhancing diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
Dr. T.N. Balakrishna Gowda, Managing Director & Chief Orthopaedic & Robotic Joint Replacement Surgeon, Avant bkg hospitals, said, “This is a proud moment for our hospital at Mysuru. Our commitment to offering the latest medical advancements ensures that our patients receive world-class care without having to travel to bigger cities. The successful completion of the MitraClip procedure highlights our team’s expertise and our hospital’s dedication to improving cardiac care in city and in the State.”
Dr. Adarsh, Chief Anaesthetist and Dr. Vanitha, Non-Invasive Cardiologist, were the key members of the team that performed the procedure.
