Sir,
I have been watching the Jumboo Savari (Dasara procession) for many years, and I am very happy to notice that numerous people, through NGOs, Associations and individually, are involved in helping spectators by providing drinking water. It is truly a welcome gesture.
However, in recent years, it has been observed that many of them are using plastic water bottles. Once the procession is over, both sides of the road are littered with discarded bottles, creating a massive cleanup task for the Mysuru City Corporation workers the next day.
Last year, I noticed that only one group — if I remember correctly, it was Team Mysuru — provided water from tanks using glasses (cups). My request to all who are planning to distribute water this year is to adopt this method and help prevent plastic pollution, contributing to making our city a plastic-free-city.
