Mysore/Mysuru: Former CFTRI Director and Senior Scientist Dr. V. Prakash said that the Institute must grow further globally.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the M.Sc Food Technology award ceremony and CFTRI Alumni Meet held at CSIR-CFTRI’s IFTTC auditorium here on Friday.
Pointing out that the CFTRI was established in Mysuru on Oct.21,1950, Padma Shri Dr. Prakash, who is also a Distinguished Scientist of CSIR, said that the then Maharaja of Mysore Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had donated land for the Institute and as such the erstwhile Maharajas must always be remembered.
Noting that CFTRI is at the forefront in Food Technology research, he wanted the Institute to expand its horizons further and excel internationally for qualitative and quantitative research and other-related activities in Food Science.
Observing that online edu-cation cannot be as effective as physical classes, Dr. Prakash opined that at least 20 percent of qualified students must take up teaching as their career as they can pass on their acquired knowledge to future generations.
Shreya Kalai, a student from Kerala, bagged five gold medals in M.Sc Food Technology, while Yasmita Grover, Bhavana Chugh, Diya Jyoti, Sinni Mishra, R. Lakshmi Vijayan and Divya Agarwal bagged a medal each. Scholarships were also distributed to several students on the occasion. CSIR-CFTRI Director Dr. Sridevi Annapurna Singh presided. CSIR-CFTRI Human Resources Development Head Dr. Pradeep Singh Negi, Co-ordinator Dr. Giridhar Parvatam and others were present.
