Marking World Water Day, an awareness rally, a walkathon and thematic competitions were organised at various places in city this morning.
Maharaja’s College: About 1,500 students of Maharaja’s College took out an awareness rally from Maharaja’s College to DC’s Office passing through Ramaswamy Circle, Narayana Shastry Road and D. Devaraja Urs Road. At Ramaswamy Circle, the students formed a human chain and enacted a street play to highlight the importance of water, the lifeline of existence.
The students later submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep seeking a ban on indiscriminate sinking of borewells which was a threat for conservation of ground water. They also suggested the house plan sanctioning authorities to insist on provisions made for rain water harvesting before clearing the plan.
The students held placards with messages like ‘rain water is precious’, ‘save water to save earth’ and ‘borewell is not the only solution’.
Mysore University Registrar R. Rajanna flagged off the rally. Maharaja’s College Principal C.P. Sunitha, Convenor Dr. P.T. Bharathi and others were present.
At Manasagangothri: About 200 students of Department of Physics, University of Mysore, took out an awareness rally in Manasagangothri campus this morning as part of World Water Day.
JSS University: The Department of Water and Health, JSS University, in association with Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) had organised an awareness walkathon. It started from JSS University campus and passed through Hanumanthanagar and Bannimantap.
A programme at JSS Dental College premises was held featuring thematic competitions on water conservation that included poster presentation, quiz, debate, painting, documentary and lectures. About 80 students from various colleges participated in the competitions.
KSPCB Senior Environmental Officer K.M. Lingaraju flagged off the walkathon. Faculty of Life Sciences Chairman G.K. Chandrashekarappa and others were present.
APNADESH Mysuru has sent a message to all in city with a thematic question ‘Why waste water’ appealing citizens to use water judiciously leaving no room for future generation to point a mistake on water conservation. It has suggested meaningful celebration of Water Day.
