Mysuru: A day after the portico of the 121-year-old Fire Brigade at Saraswathipuram collapsed due to intense rainfall, B.Y. Vijayendra, State BJP Yuva Morcha General Secretary, inspected the spot this morning.
He was accompanied by MLAs L. Nagendra, S.A. Ramdas and C.S. Niranjan Kumar, State BJP Secretary M. Rajendra, leaders Dr. B.H. Manjunath, Siddaraju, H.V. Rajeev, Raghu Kautilya, Appanna and others.
Apprising Vijayendra on the damage caused to the Fire Brigade building, Chamaraja MLA Nagendra said that the building is a heritage structure which had become dilapidated over passage of time.
Pointing out that there were several other iconic heritage structures in the city such as Devaraja Market, Lansdowne building etc., which have become dilapidated, Nagendra said that the Government should take serious note of the dilapidated condition of all heritage structures in the city and take urgent measures before any tragedy occurs.
Batting for the demolition of all dilapidated heritage structures and construction of new ones while retaining their heritage character, Nagendra said that the Government should take immediate measures in this regard.
Later, speaking to presspersons, Vijayendra, who is also the son of Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, said that he has taken note of the serious concerns expressed by the party Legislators on the dilapidated structures and would take up the issue with top Government officials soon.
He further said that he would tour all flood-hit taluks of the district today to take stock of the situation.
