Baby Hunters (Shikras) !

The Shikras are one of the most common small birds of prey (raptors). In fact, it was an article on Shikra in SOM dated Sept. 2, 2020 by eminent Ethologist Ragoo Rao that inspired me to take my hobby of bird photography to the next level.

I have been following Shikras since then and was lucky to capture these adorable Shikra hatchlings near my house recently.

Shikras breed in India during the summer and their nest resembles that of crows, built of twigs and sticks. Known for their courage, bravery and intellect, Shikras  were quite popular with falconers.

An Indian Navy Air Station in Mumbai is named after this bird — INS  Shikra. The Shikra is also the mascot for the 149 Squadron of the Republic of  Singapore Air Force. – H.S. Sreeranjini, Sharadadevinagar 1st Stage
