Mysore/Mysuru: Biochemistry is a discipline that unveils the chemical basis of life in all living organisms including plants, animals and micro-organisms. Excerpts from the Learning Outcome-based Curriculum Framework (LOCF) released by UGC this year in January clearly suggests the basic requirement to understand the scientific language of Life/Biological Sciences in the form of Biochemistry.
LOCF-Biochemistry under-graduate model curriculum developed by UGC is being used as a template for the curriculum empowered with essential components of Life Sciences Skill Sets.
Keeping this in mind, Single Major B.Sc., Biochemistry (3 years: 6 Semesters, Choice Based Credit System) is being introduced by School of Life Sciences, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER) from this academic year apart from the existing M.Sc., Biochemistry programme.
Biochemistry is a major contributing discipline to the growth of modern medical and health sciences and agriculture including in the existing pandemic condition. The change in curriculum will allow students to get more opportunity to build careers in teaching, research, clinical diagnosis, treatment of diseases/disorders, designing drugs and understanding their metabolism, manufacture of various biological products, and in agriculture related industrial establishments.
The advancements in Life Sciences brings about the challenge to undertake Biochemistry as a course at undergraduate level which will help in developed learning outcomes including critical thinking, problem solving, analytical and scientific reasoning, and research/industry related skills.
