Bags KSTA Best Book Award

Mysore/Mysuru: “Vaidyakeeya Kshetrada Nobel Puraskrutaru – Vol. 4” authored by Dr. S.N. Hegde, science writer and former Professor and Chairman of Department of Zoology, University of Mysore, has bagged Best Book Award given by Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA), Government of Karnataka, for the year 2021-22.

The award, which is given once in two years by the Academy to the Best Science Book published in the field of Science, Technology, Agriculture and Medicine, carries a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, a citation and a memento.

Dr. Hegde’s book has been chosen for this award in the field of Medicine. The award will be presented at a function organised at the KSTA Office in Bengaluru on Mar. 17 at 10 am.

Profile: Dr. Hegde has so far contributed 38 science books in Kannada including editing of Kannada Encyclopaedia, by University of Mysore. He has also brought out English-English-Kannada Dictionary of Biology.

Besides, Dr. Hegde, who has plans to bring out eight volumes of biographies of all Nobel Laureates who have won Nobel Prize in the field of Physiology and Medicine since its inception from 1901, has completed four volumes till now. The Best Book Award is for the 4th Volume of this series which include biographies of Nobel Prize winners from 1966 to 1977. He has also guided 18 students for their Ph.Ds and published 125 research papers in various journals. Considering his contribution to the field of Zoology, one insect species has been named after him as ‘Drosophila hegdii.’
