Mysuru: Bahuroopi Theatre Festival, which commenced on Jan.14 with the theme ‘Migration,’ concluded yesterday after providing an array of programmes like plays, cinemas, painting expo, seminars, book expo, folk art, handicraft mela, street plays and desi adventure games.
Topping all was a desi food festival for the foodies. Over 1,000 artistes from various States presented the programmes. Thousands of art-lovers enjoyed the Fes. In all, 24 plays were enacted and an equal number of movies were screened at the International Film Festival.
On the concluding day yesterday, Sanchari Rangaghataka of Rangayana presented a street play at Kindarijogi. C. Manjunath and team of Mysuru presented a Nagari performance and Rangashala students of Rangayana presented Kamsale dance at Vanaranga.
Artistes of Rangamantapa, Bengaluru, staged Kannada play ‘Akku’ at the Mini Auditorium.
Natakghar of Pune presented Marathi play ‘Samaja Swasthya’ at Bhoomigeeta. Artistes of Sri Venkateshwara Natya Mandali, Hyderabad, presented Telugu play ‘Bhakta Prahlada’ at Kalamandira.
Being the last day, heavy rush was observed at the book expo and food stalls.
The seminar on ‘Migration’ brought out interesting discussions and deliberations. Mono-acting plays on women empowerment was a special feature. The festival also drew talent from a lot of young artistes.
Amidst the popularity of cinema, reality shows and tele serials, the overwhelming response for Bahuroopi Festival proved a point that theatre activity was still very active with good plays always being appreciated by the discerning group of society.
