Bank employees protest against merger of Banks

Mysuru, Sept.3 (MK&DM)- Strongly condemning the Union Government’s decision to merge public sector Banks, hundreds of Bank employees, under the banner of Federation of Bank Employees’ Associations, staged a demonstration in front of Canara Bank Zonal Office at Nazarbad here on Saturday.

Addressing the protesters, Mysuru District Bank Employees Union Secretary Balakrishna alleged that the mergers would lead to more unemployment.

Expressing concerns that the Bank Employees would have to work under more pressure, he said that the merger of 10 banks with four banks would create a rush of customers at one place, which results in lack of service to customers.

Claiming that the Centre’s move would not benefit the common man, he cited the instance of merger of many banks with SBI, where people are put into a lot of hardship.

Maintaining that the merger will fail to create jobs, while at the same time many employees may face retrenchment, Balakrishna urged the Union Government to stop Bank merger moves at once and to save thousands of employees of their jobs.

The Federation office-bearers Shivaprasad, Mahesh and others were present.
