Mysore/Mysuru: Regretting that research articles and papers are nowadays limited to just getting Doctoral degrees, MLC A.H. Vishwanath said that the benefits of research should reach the people.
He was speaking after releasing Spandana Rameshwar’s work titled ‘Bio-Diversity of Karnataka State Open University Campus’ at a programme jointly organised by Inidani Mannamakkala Honnapadagala Balaga and PhDians Publishers at Cauvery auditorium in Muktagangothri campus here recently.
Observing that research papers are not even reaching the population, let alone benefiting them, Vishwanath recalled that he had met a Political Science faculty during Emergency and held discussions with him on writing a book in defence of Emergency.
Noting that research is going on political issues in different countries of the globe, the MLC bemoaned that hardly any research is being done on Gram Panchayat system, which is key in Indian politics. Expressing disappointment that no research is being carried out on understanding or reading the mind of a child by carrying out psychological studies, he advocated the need for a research on child education.
Opining that the KSOU which was established 25 years ago should have become a premier institution of the country by now, Vishwanath regretted that it was baffling to note that a Rs. 240 crore scam emerged when a scrutiny of files was done.
He stressed on the need for all to join hands in taking KSOU to much greater heights.
KSOU VC Prof. S. Vidyashankar, Registrar Prof. R. Rajanna, former Backward Classes Welfare Department Officer Y. Eranna, University of Mysore Biotechnology Department faculty Prof. S. Umesh, Dr. M. Umashankar, B.S. Mamata and others were present.
