NSD to host International Theatre Fest for the first time in city
Mysuru: The National School of Drama (NSD) will be hosting an International Theatre Festival ‘20th Bharat Rang Mahotsav,’ in association with Department of Kannada and Culture and Rangayana from Feb.11 to 17 at Kalamandira premises, said Senior Faculty of NSD Ashok Sagar Bhagat.
Addressing a press conference at Sriranga auditorium in Rangayana premises here yesterday, he said that this is the first time that Bharat Rang Mahotsav is being organised by NSD in Mysuru.
Minister D.K. Shivakumar will inaugurate the Mahotsav on Feb.11 at Kalamandira at 6.30 pm. District Minister G.T. Devegowda and Ministry of Culture Joint Secretary Nirupama Kotru will be present along with Kannada and Culture Department Director K.M. Janaki and NSD Director in-charge Prof. Suresh Sharma.
The inauguration will be followed by staging of Malayalam play Maha Sagaram directed by Prashant Narayanan at 6.30 pm. There will be a total of seven plays including three international productions from Mexico, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
The other events include interactive sessions from Feb.12 to 14 between 10.30 am and 1.30 pm with Jogen Chowdhury involving theatre enthusiasts and students.
The entry to all the plays is free and the theatre enthusiasts can collect the passes at Rangayana’s Kuteera from 10 am to 5 pm. Children below eight years will not be allowed and taking of photos and videos is also strictly prohibited, said Bhagat.
Other plays that will be staged at Kalamandira are:
Feb.12: Assamese play Svapnvasavadutta directed by Anup Hazarika.
Feb.13: Desaparecidos, an English and Spanish play directed by Anna Dora Dorno.
Feb.14: Aur Ant Mein Prarthana, a Hindi play directed by Ajit Kumar.
Feb.15: Charaharuko Sammelan, a Nepali play directed by Deeya Maskey.
Feb.16: Mrityu Sambad, a Bengali play directed by Parthasarathi Raha.
Feb.17: Stormy Weather, an English play directed by Jehan Aloysius. All these plays will be staged at Kalamandira at 6.30 pm.
After the shows in Mysuru, they will travel to other parts of the country till Feb.21 where Kannada plays will also be staged, he said and added that the Kannada plays are however, not being staged in the city.
