Mysore/Mysuru: Miscreants in the guise of Police have made a vain bid to extort money from a businessman and a case has been registered at city’s CEN Police Station.
On July 30 at about 3.30 pm, businessman Shekar (name changed), a resident of Ramakrishnanagar, got a call on his mobile phone and when he received the call, the person on the other end of the phone telling his (Shekar) daughter’s name asked him whether she was his daughter.
When Shekar said that she was indeed his daughter, the caller, who then identified himself as Police, told Shekar that he was calling from Bengaluru. When Shekar asked him, what had happened, the caller told him that his daughter and her friends had cheated a Minister’s son of Rs. 25 lakh and the Inspector had brought them from their college to the Police Station for an enquiry.
The caller then told Shekar that during interrogation they came to know that his daughter did not have any role in the case and asked Shekar to transfer Rs. 10,000 each to four Inspectors on Google Pay following which they would release his daughter.
Sensing something fishy, Shekar, who replied positively to the caller, disconnected the call and immediately lodged a complaint at CEN Police Station.
