Mysuru: The Biochemical Society of the Department of Biochemistry, JSS College for Women, was inaugurated by Dr. M. Mahadevappa, Director (Rural Development), JSS Mahavidyapeetha, by lighting the lamp at the Navajyoti auditorium in the College premises here recently.
Speaking on the occasion, he stressed upon the importance of science and technology for increasing the crop production in our country and other aspects regarding agricultural sciences.
Dr. T. Veerabasappa Gowda, Professor (retd.) of Biochemistry, University of Mysore, who was the chief guest, spoke about the importance of Biochemical Society and how Biochemistry can be considered as a basic science subject.
On this occasion, Dr. Vishakantha Murthy, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, Rochester, USA, gave a special lecture on “Translational Research: Bench to Bedside.” The talk enlightened the students about different stages of drug discoveries and it’s time course. He also told about the discovery of drugs to Parkinson’s disease and patients addicted to the cocaine.
He added that one should have a collaborating mind in order to achieve success in the field of research and various fields under Biochemistry.
Dr. H.B. Suresh, Dean-Academic of the College, presided over the event. Prof. K.G. Shivakumaraswamy, HoD of Biochemistry, welcomed. S. Rakshitha rendered invocation. The Mission and Vision of the Biochemical Society was illustrated by M.T. Vyshali of III year B.Sc.
About 300 Natural Science students and faculty were present.
