Birders identify 52 species of birds at Lingambudhi Lake

Mysuru: Arivu Shaikshanika Mattu Samskrutika Trust, Lingambudhipalya in city, had organised a bird-watching session on Saturday from Arivu School to Lingambudhi Lake.

Around 30 birders participated in the event and walked to the nearby Lingambudhi Lake surroundings. Participants also included a number of children who got first-hand experience of identifying bird species, their habitat and other knowledge related to flora and fauna.

Adjusting their binoculars, eager birders examined the birds preening, head wiping, pruning, food carrying and mobbing behaviours. Some of them who carried DSLR cameras adjusted the lens and clicked to capture the moment.

During the 80-minute walk along the Lake surroundings, the bird enthusiasts could identify 52 species of birds including Northern Shovelers, Garganeys, Spot-billed Pelicans, Barbets and a few birds of prey.

Resource persons Dr. A.P.C. Abhijit, Pawan Ramachandra and D.H. Tanuja guided the participants during the one-kilometre bird-watching session.
