Birth anniversary of Nalwadi on June 4

Mysuru:  The District Administration has decided to celebrate the 135th birth anniversary of visionary ruler ‘Rajarshi’ Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar on June 4 in city.   

A decision to this effect was taken at the preliminary meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner G. Anuradha to discuss the preparations at DC Office Court Hall on Tuesday.

The meeting decided to celebrate the event in a grand manner by inviting a large gathering of people, school and college students to the public programme besides conducting workshop to educate people about the contributions of Nalwadi in the development of Modern Mysore, promotion of art, culture, heritage etc.  

The ADC said that a huge procession will be taken out from Prasanna Lakshmiramanaswamy Temple in the Palace premises on the same day at 9 am. The procession will be flagged off after garlanding the statue of Krishnaraja Wadiyar at K.R. Circle.

Another procession, organised by the members of Ursu Mandali Sangha on the same day from its Office premises in Agrahara will join the main procession near K.R.Circle. Participants of the both procession will pass through D. Devaraj Urs Road and reach Kalamandira where a stage programme will be held.  A silver chariot, folk troupes, Police Band will be the main attraction in the procession.

The District Administration has also organised screening of a documentary and staging of a play based on the life and works of Nalwadi after the public programme at Kalamandira.

The meeting has decided to print and distribute more than 2,000 invitation cards inviting heads of various schools to send their children to the programme besides to make the presence of District Administration officials compulsory to the event.

Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture H. Chennappa, Deputy Director of Archives Department Gavisiddaiah, Prof. P.V. Nanjaraja Urs, Theatre Personality Rajashekara Kadamba, former President of District Kannada Sahitya Parishat Maddikere Gopal,  BSP City Unit President Basavaraj and others took part in the meeting.
