Sir,
The entire cricketing fraternity of the world plunged into deep sorrow on hearing the sad demise of legendary cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi on Oct.23.
Bedi was one of the quartets, besides E.A.S. Prasanna, B.S. Chandrasekhar and S. Venkataraghavan, that India has ever produced and has been widely acknowledged as the ever-time greats of Indian cricket.
Bedi was an effective slow left arm orthodox spin bowler and mesmerised world’s top class batsmen through his flighted delivery and bagged their wickets. Thus, Bedi has contributed his mite to the Indian cricket.
Bishan Singh Bedi captained the Indian team in 22 Test matches. He encouraged and motivated young cricketers to perform well in the National and International cricket. A perfect disciplinarian on and off the field, Bedi at the same time was a very nice human being too.
He has also bagged the prestigious Padma Shree award in 1970, won C.K. Naidu’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.
It is really unfortunate that the ‘Sardar of Cricket, joined the Great majority.’ Perhaps, Bedi may not be with us today but his ideals and remarkable performances remain evergreen in the hearts of millions of cricket fans. May Mr. Bishan Singh Bedi’s noble soul rest in peace.
