BJP veteran leaders to contest LS polls

New Delhi: BJP National President Amit Shah has withdrawn the undeclared upper age limit for party candidates to contest the Lok Sabha (LS) polls.

Addressing the party’s National Executive here yesterday, Shah declared that there will be no upper age limit for party candidates to contest next year’s LS polls, it is learnt.

The party had earlier thought of keeping veteran leaders, who have crossed 75 years, out of the electoral battle and accordingly, veteran leaders such as L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Kariya Munda and Sumitra Mahajan had to keep away from electoral politics.

But with Shah withdrawing the undeclared rule, veteran leaders and old timers of the party can hope to contest next year’s LS polls and also guide the party on key issues.
