Bomb threat to schools: Delhi youth arrested

Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru City Police have arrested Nikhil Sharma, a youth from Delhi, in connection with a series of bomb threat e-mails sent to multiple locations across Karnataka, including educational institutions in Mysuru. The arrest took place on Sunday, and he was remanded to Judicial Custody on Monday.

On May 2, the Mysuru City Police Commissioner’s office received an alarming e-mail stating that bombs had been planted at several locations within the city. Treating the threat with utmost seriousness, Police conducted searches at key areas and subsequently registered a case at the Nazarbad Police Station.

City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar formed a special investigation team to trace the sender. The team, comprising Inspector Mahadevaswamy, Narayan, Praveen, Srinivas, Ismail and Gopal, tracked down and detained Nikhil Sharma in Hubballi.

A B.Com graduate, Sharma had reportedly been in love with a woman who rejected his advances. Following the heartbreak, he began showing signs of mental instability.

Police sources revealed that Sharma used others’ mobile devices while in Uttarakhand to send bomb-threat e-mails and was previously jailed for similar acts.

After his release, he allegedly repeated the behaviour by sending threatening e-mails to public institutions in Raichur, Chamarajanagar, Mysuru and even Kerala, according to Police sources.
