Books are testimony to facts, events: Minister

Mysuru: Although news may fade with time, books have always remained a testimony to facts and events, opined Kannada and Culture & Women and Child Welfare Minister Jayamala.

She was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Kannada Pustaka Mela’ (Book Fair) jointly organised by Kannada and Culture Department, Kannada Book Authority and Mysuru Dasara Samithi-2018, as part of Dasara celebrations at CADA office premises on Sayyaji Rao Road  on Oct. 10.

Noting the advent of  many TV channels these days, Jayamala said that books have always withstood the onslaught of electronic media.

Observing that there is no such thing as ‘shelf-life’ to books, she said that books are important to upgrade one’s knowledge.

Pointing out that books are a treasure for any individual, the Minister said no one can steal or hijack one’s knowledge.

Maintaining that the Pustaka Mela (Book Fair) has a whole range of books on display, she called upon  book-lovers to make best use of this fair.

The Pustaka Mela has 47 stalls with a diverse selection of books and topics. Books on social concerns, caste systems, farmer movements and other significant  social events are also on display at the Mela.
