Boy killed as hi-tension power line falls

Chamarajanagar: A 12-year-old boy was killed on the spot, when an overhead hi-tension power line fell on him at Kethahalli village near Harave in the taluk on Tuesday.

The deceased boy is K.M. Manoj Kumar, son of Mahesh, a farmer and was studying in 7th standard at Sri Chennabasaveshwara School in Harave.

On Tuesday, Manoj had accompanied his parents to their agricultural field and while walking in the field, a hi-tension power line, passing over the agricultural field fell on Manoj, electrocuting him.

Rs. 5 lakh compensation announced: CESC Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Peter and Junior Engineer (JE) Praveen, rushed to the spot only to face the wrath of the villagers, who held the CESC staff responsible for Manoj’s death.

The villagers alleged that the power lines were sagging and though the issue was brought to the notice of the Junior Engineer and the Lineman and also complaints lodged, no action was taken to repair the power lines.

They blamed that the negligent attitude of CESC officials had claimed an innocent life and demanded CESC to provide compensation to the deceased boy’s family. AEE Peter announced that Rs. 5 lakh compensation would be given to the deceased’s family. However, farmer leader Moodnakodu Mahesh and others have demanded more compensation be given from the lineman and the Junior Engineer.
