Mysuru: Two engineers of Minor Irrigation Department (Groundwater Development Division) have landed in Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) net while accepting a bribe to sanction a bill to a contractor.
The officers, Assistant Engineer Rajashekar and Assistant Executive Engineer Shyamsundar, have now been arrested. While Shyamsundar was arrested from his residence in J.P. Nagar and Rajashekar was nabbed red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh near the Welcome Arch on Lalitha Mahal Road around 10.30 am yesterday.
According to ACB Official, Ganesh Prasad, a class 2 civil contractor from Bandigere Village of Chamarajanagar taluk, had obtained a contract, completed the works in the stipulated time and had submitted a bill for Rs. 3,05,000 for sanctioning the amount.
Engineers Rajashekar and Shyamsundar, who inspected the works on Mar. 4, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.1 lakh to sanction the bill amount, following which the contractor lodged a complaint with the ACB Police.
The ACB Police, who registered a case, succeeded in arresting Rajashekar red-handed while accepting Rs. 1 lakh from the contractor and also arrested Shyamsundar.
Later, both were brought to the Minor Irrigation Department Executive Engineer’s Office at Nazarbad for interrogation. They were later produced before a Court which remanded them to judicial custody.
In-charge Chamarajanagar ACB Superintendent of Police (SP) Jayaprakash and Dy.SP Sadanand Thippannanavar guided ACB Inspectors C. Kirankumar and Lakshmidevi and staffs Mahadeva, Swamy, Krishnakumar, Satish, Nagalakshmi, Nagendra and others in the operation.
