Burglar arrested: Gold ornaments worth over Rs. 10 lakh recovered

Chamarajanagar: Chamarajanagar District Police have arrested a burglar and have recovered gold ornaments worth over Rs. 10 lakh and have seized a bike from him.

On July 31 at about 8.30 am, Crime Detection Squad personnel including Assistant Sub-Inspector Takiulla and Constable Biligowda, who were patrolling the Gold-Silver Shops Street in Kollegal Town Police limits, saw a man wearing a helmet and riding a Bajaj Dominor bike (KA-09-JK-0852).

As he was moving around frequently on the street, the Cops on suspicion followed him and asked him to stop the bike during which he tried to speed away in his bid to escape from the spot, but was caught.

On interrogating him, the Police came to know that he had lifted gold chains from a bag hanging from a scooter near Bharat Bakery in Kollegal town on July 29 and had also stolen gold chains kept in a bag from a bike which was parked near Maramma Temple at Shivanasamudra on July 30 and he was moving around on the street to sell the stolen gold chains.

The Police, who took him into custody, interrogated him further during which they came to know that on July 2, he had snatched a gold chain from a woman at Kollegal Bus Stand and about a year back, he had snatched a gold necklace from a woman, who was riding pillion on the bike with her husband near Belakavadi.

Following his arrest, the Police have solved five cases in Kollegal Police Sub-Division limits and two cases in Mysuru District limits. Based on the information provided by the accused, the Police have recovered 204 grams gold ornaments worth Rs. 10.65 lakh and a Bajaj Dominar bike used for the crime.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. B.T. Kavitha, Additional SP Udesh and Dy.SP M. Dharmendra guided Kollegal Circle Inspector Shivamadaiah, Kollegal Crime Wing Sub-Inspector (SI) Umavathi, Crime Detection Squad Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Takiulla, Head Constables Ravikumar, Kishore and Venkatesh, Constables Shivakumar, Biligowda, Kollegal Town Constables Amaresh, Saviraju, Basavaraju, Sachin and Rohit in the nabbing and recovery operation.
