Mandya: The State Government on Thursday appointed District Congress Committee President C.D. Gangadhar as the Chairman of the State-owned Mysore Sugar Company Limited (MySugar). Following this, hectic lobbying for District Congress Committee President’s post has begun.
The post of MySugar Chairman being equivalent to Cabinet ranking, had many aspirants to the coveted post. However, Chief Minister Siddramaiah finalised on Gangadhar, who has served as the District Congress Committee President for a long term. His name for MySugar was also recommended by Agriculture and District In-charge Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy.
However, State Government which announced the Chairman for MySugar, is yet to make appointment to Mandya Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Though it was expected that the Chairman to MUDA would be named along with the other boards, authorities and corporations, sources said that the appointment to MUDA had been withheld for reasons best known to the State Government.
With prominent Vokkaliga leaders Srirangapatna MLA Ramesh Babu Bandisiddegowda and C.D. Gangadhar appointed as Chairmen to Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Limited and MySugar respectively, it is expected that a leader from minority community would be appointed as MUDA Chairman. If sources are to be believed, former MUDA Chairman Asadullah Khan, a close associate of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, is in the race to be re-appointed as MUDA Chairman.
Apart from hectic lobby for District Congress Committee President’s post, the local Congress leaders have also been insisting the party leadership to appoint them as Directors and Presidents to local bodies and Co-operative Banks.
