Likely to be held on Feb.9
Mysuru/Mysore: A wrong depiction of date of the popular Jathra Mahotsava at the Jwalamukhi Tripurasundariamma Temple in Uttanahalli has put people under confusion.
Pramoda Devi Wadiyar of the erstwhile royal family has opined that since 1868 as per the Mysore Palace almanac, the Vardhanti Mahotsava of the presiding deity at the said temple was being held on the third Sunday of Magha Masa every year. Hence, she has contended that it should be aptly held on Feb.9 and not on Feb.16 as per the wrong depiction in the calendar.
The date confusion prompted a delegation of local villagers to meet Pramoda Devi Wadiyar on Monday. Chamundi Hill Temple Chief Priest N. Shashishekara Dixit, Muzrai Tahsildar Yatiraj and Palace Purohits also participated in the discussion.
Pramoda Devi Wadiyar opined that Feb.9 is the correct day for the event and wondered how it has been wrongly printed in calendars. However, she suggested the local villagers to discuss and arrive at a final date for the Jathra.
As the said Temple comes under Muzrai Department, the villagers are waiting for the decision of the DC for the final date for the Jathra.
Tandavapura Jathra is supposed to be earlier to Uttanahalli Jathra. The date of the former is Feb.11 which now raises a new doubt if it will happen on that day.
