Discusses on making banking citizen-centric, senior citizen-friendly
Mysuru: The Union Finance Ministry has directed the Banking sector to bring in reforms by making Banking citizen-centric as well as more responsive to the needs and aspirations of senior citizens, and others. In order to discuss on these issues, the Senior Officers of several branches of Canara Bank held a meeting at the Regional Office of the Bank in Nazarbad here on Saturday.
Regional Office Assistant General Manager K.B. Geetha, who chaired the meeting, said that the Banking sector was facing several challenges and it was important to find ways and means to tackle them. Hence, this meeting, a first of its kind consultation, was called where the branches were themselves asked to review their performance.
The meeting reviewed the Bank’s performance and its alignment with national priorities such as credit support for economic growth, farm sector and economy, MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) and MUDRA loans, education loans, Green Economy, Swachh Bharat, Direct Benefit Transfer, Less Cash/ Digital Economy, ease of living, corporate social responsibility, Jal Shakti, Export Credit to name a few.
As a result of the consultations, a number of the implementable and innovative suggestions came up on how PSBs (Public Sector Banks) in general and our Bank in particular, may improve heir performance and what the road map for the future should be, Geetha said.
These suggestions will be sent to the Zonal level for further discussions at SLBC (State Level Bankers’ Committee) level, final consultations will be held at the national level to compare both intra and inter-bank performance and to finalise the suggestions regarding the way ahead for implementations across PSBs, she said.
The consultative process has resulted in a renewed sense of involvement and purpose down to the branch level and the Bank is geared towards implementing the roadmap for the future, improve its performance and align-itself to national priorities so that it may fulfil its mandate of partnering the Indian Growth story, said Geetha.
