Cancer awareness event held

Mysore/Mysuru: A cancer awareness programme was organised by The Organisation for the Development of People (ODP) at its premises in Bannimantap recently.

Dr. Nishchal Raj, Surgical Oncologist from Narayana Health, spoke on common cancers, stressing early detection and regular screening.

Pointing out that breast and cervical cancers are most common among women, Dr. Nishchal recommended monthly self-exams, mammograms from age 40 and Pap/HPV testing as per age guidelines.

Among men, prostate, lung and colorectal cancers were highlighted, with a focus on early screening and healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Nishchal urged the ODP staff to promote awareness, encourage screenings and support patients. As part of the event, 120 kitchen garden seed kits were distributed to staff for distribution to Self Help Group (SHG) members, promoting nutrition and home gardening.

ODP Director Rev. Fr. Alex Prashanth Sequeira, Director Designate Rev. Fr. Tenny Kurian, Fr. John Fernandez, Manager at Sanghamitra Rural Financial Services (SRFS) Mahadevaswamy and others were present.
