Mysuru: Members of State Sugarcane Growers’ Association and Federation of Farmers’ Associations of the State have decided to stage a protest in front of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on June 4 to urge the Government to arrange payment of dues from sugar factories.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the State Committee of the aforementioned organisations held at Chetan Garden in city on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Association State President Kurubur Shantakumar disclosed that over Rs.3,000 crore of dues should be paid by over 50 sugar factories. He alleged that the loan-waiver scheme for farmers has a lot of conditions laid down by the Government which should be relaxed. He urged the Govt. to get the Mysore Paper Mills in Bhadravati and Srirama Sugars in Chunchanakatte re-opened as assured by the Government. He also sought a remedy for wild animals straying into human habitat adjoining forests. Raitha Sangha Treasurer M.B. Chetan, Gen. Secretary S.N. Basavanna, Organising Secretary Devaraj and others were present.
