Carved sculpture stone found in Melukote

Melukote: A  foundation stone sculpture with carvings on all its four sides resembling Palace Thottimane was found near Panchakalyani Complex at the temple town Melukote in Mandya district yesterday.

Infosys Foundation has taken up the restoration and conservation of Kalyani and ponds around Melukote and workers stumbled upon this stone sculpture while digging earth near parking lot behind Dhara Mantap.

Infosys Foundation Chairperson Sudha Murty has taken up restoration works after discussing with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to conserve Melukote Kalyani and ponds.

The workers, who started the work a fortnight back, removed mud and silt accumulated around the Dhara Mantap.

They also cleaned the water sources of the Kalyani that was filled with mud. People of Melukote were surprised by the discovery of these ancient remains in the town.
