Madikeri: The Kodagu District Administration is all set for the holy event of Cauvery Theerthodhbava scheduled to be held at 12.33 pm on Oct. 17.
On this day, it is believed that Goddess Cauvery comes in the form of a fountain-head where water gushes up from the Brahmakundike at a predetermined moment.
Lakhs of devotees from across the State and neighbouring States like Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh are expected to throng Talacauvery, the hill temple and the birth place of River Cauvery. As Theerthodhbava will take place in the afternoon this year, a large number of devotees are expected to take part.
Many organisations and the District Administration have already taken up cleaning works at Talacauvery and Bhagamandala. The work on filling potholes is in progress.
DC chairs meeting
At a meeting held on Oct. 13, Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Dr. Richard Vincent D’Souza directed the officials to make all preparations for the Tula Sankramana fair. He said district-level officials should actively take part in the festival with PWD, Zilla Panchayat Engineering Division, Police, Forest Department, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company (CESC) and Health Department playing a vital role in the success of Theerthodhbava.
He directed PWD and ZP engineers to repair the road which leads to Bhagamandala and Talacauvery and asked for barricades to be installed at Talacauvery. As a large number of devotees visit Talacauvery and Bhagamandala on Oct. 17 and 18, CESC should provide uninterrupted power supply, he added.
Priority should be given to maintain cleanliness at Talacauvery and Bhagamandala. Washing clothes and vehicles at Triveni Sangam should not be allowed, he said. He directed the Temple Committee to provide drinking water, space and other facilities for the distribution of food. Temporary toilets must be constructed in Bhagamandala-Talacauvery. He directed health officers to provide ambulance and medical facilities on the spot.
Normally, the ‘Theertha’ (holy water) from Brahmakundike is transported in vehicles. However, Talacauvery Moola Swaroopa Rakshana Vedike has opposed the move to transport the ‘Theertha’ in vehicles.
Liquor sale banned
To maintain law and order, the District Administration has banned the sale of liquor from midnight of Oct. 15 to 10 am on Oct. 18, within 10 km radius of Bhagamandala Gram Panchayat jurisdiction.
The District Administration has made minor changes in the traffic movement and introduced one-way traffic on several roads from 6 am to 6 pm on Oct. 17.
All the vehicles from Madikeri to Bhagamandala should pass through Thalathmane-Udothmotte-Appangala-Bhagamandala. All the vehicles from Bhagamandala to Madikeri should pass through Appangala-Panya-Katakeri.
