Mysuru: Versatile choreographer and venerated Guru of Bharata-natyam, Dr. Vasundhara Dora-swamy and veteran singer Vidushi H.R. Leelavathi, who have been selected for the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards, were felicitated in city recently.
The function was organised jointly by Kala Sandesha Prathishtana, JP Nagar, Mysuru; Brahma Vidya Samsthe, Mysuru and Veena Visweswaran International Foundation, USA, at RamaGovinda Rangamandira in Ramakrishnanagar here.
Dr. Nagamani Srinath, Member of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, felicitated both the artistes. Speaking on the occasion, she said “Many members of the Selection Committees of various Akademis in the State and Centre lack knowledge about veteran artistes who have won recognition at National and International levels.”
“Veteran artistes are requ-ired to prepare a list of their achievements and submit them with suitable documents to various Akademis, for them to be considered for the awards that are announced every year. Then only their names will be considered and this is the prevailing system,” lamented Dr. Nagamani.
Internationally acclaimed Veena Maestro Prof. R Visweswaran, renowned Danseuse Dr. Kripa Phadke of Nrityagiri, Dr. R.S. Nandakumar of Brahma Vidya, Sandesh Bhargav of Kala Sandesha Prathishtana, Kartik Visweswaran of Veena Visweswaran International Foundation, were present.
