CFTRI promotes farmer products

Mysore/Mysuru: CSIR-CFTRI Director Dr. Sridevi Annapoorna Singh said that the CFTRI has 432 different types of technologies and the Institute has been promoting farm produces and products over the years.

She was speaking after inaugurating ‘Nam Company’, an Akashavani serial broadcast on empowerment of Farmer Producers Organisations, at a programme jointly organised by CFTRI, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Mysore (UoM) and Mandya based Vikasana Grameena Mathu Nagaraabhivruddhi Samsthe, at B.N. Bahadur Institute of Management Sciences on Hunsur road here recently.

Pointing out that farm products promoted by the CFTRI are now available at Amazon and Flipkart, Dr.  Annapoorna Singh said that the CFTRI has been introducing newer technologies to farmers and it has trained over 700 farmers in this regard thus far, who in turn, have trained thousands of other farmers.

Noting that farmers are the backbone for the activities of CFTRI which was established in 1950, she opined that the Institute’s association with the farming community is so much that one cannot be separated from the other. “ India is on the top of the world in several sectors including Agriculture. The crop yield has improved a lot after the Green Revolution which happened decades ago. But it is unfortunate that a sizable quantity of quality crops, vegetables and fruits are going waste by getting rotten  due to lack of specific technology”, she said and stressed on the need for having more modernised foodgrain storages of international standards.

The CFTRI Director also gave some suggestions on overcoming the challenges in finding good and large markets both domestically and internationally.

Akashavani ,Mysuru Deputy Director S.S. Umesh,  ‘Krishiranga’ Programme Executive N. Keshvamurthy,  Mandya NABARD Bank Development Manager B.V. Harshitha, UoM Department of Journalism Head Prof. Sapna, Mandya Vikasana Samsthe Director Maheshchandra Guru, Coimbatore’s PVR Foods (P) Ltd., CEO Subhadra, Bengaluru’s Green Object Agro India Managing Director Pushpadevi and others were present.
