Mysore/Mysuru: Theatre helps in bringing people face-to-face without hiccups said former Rangayana Director H. Janardhan.

Speaking after inaugurating Greeshma Rangotsava-2025 in memory of CGK  (C.G. Krishnaswamy), organised by Rangayana at its premises in city on June 29, he remembered the words of B.V. Karanth, who said that while cinema projects a person bigger than his personality and television projects a person smaller than his original personality, theatre is the only medium that projects the person as he is.

“There is a need to understand the importance of theatre. While we are not concerned about the longevity of cinema, it is important to ensure the theatre forever,” he added. Janardhan also expressed his displeasure over living up to the name of CGK in the previous edition of the theatre festival. “Greeshma Rangotsava was started during my tenure as Rangayna Director and was dedicated to CGK. Though the festival continued even after my tenure, CGK’s name was left out. It is only a job for a person who lacks intellect and thinking capacity,” he added.

Stating that CGK belonged to the ‘Samudaya’ theatre group, which has completed 50 years, Janardhan said that a celebration will be held soon to mark the occasion. He also remembered the contributions of CGK, among which one was 50 50-week-long theatre festival during which 50 plays were staged, which introduced actors Prakash Raj and director Seetharam.

Speaking on the occasion, Rangayana Director Satish Tiptur stated, he was not aware of the reason for leaving out CGK’s name from Greeshma Rangostava and added that henceforth, the festival will be held in the name of CGK as his contribution to theatre was immense.

Following the inaugural event, the play ‘Smashana Kurukshetra’ was staged by Nepathya Ranga Tanda. Greeshma Rangotsava will be held till Aug. 10 at Bhoomigeeta in Rangayana on  every Sunday.

Next Sunday (July 6), the play ‘Ward No. 6’ will be stage dby G.P.I.E.R., Mysuru, at 6.30 pm. The play, written by Anton Chekhov and translated by D.R. Nagaraj, is directed by Mime Ramesh.
