Chain-snatchers sentenced to three years imprisonment

Nanjangud:  The Senior Civil Judge and JMFC Court, Nanjangud, has sentenced two chain-snatchers to three years rigorous imprisonment and has imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 each after the accused were found guilty of snatching two gold chains from women in Nanjangud on May 13 and 25, 2015.

The accused, who were sentenced, are Santosh and Gangadhar, both residents of Gundlupet.

On May 13, 2015, at about 2.30 pm, one Rathnamma of Mahadeshwara Layout in Nanjangud was walking towards her home along with her grandson after purchasing bread, when the accused, who came on a bike, snatched her 45 grams gold chain and sped away.

The accused again on May 25 had snatched a 68 grams gold chain of one Sunanda, while she was walking toward Commercial Tax Office on R.P. Road in Nanjangud and had sped away on a bike.

Following the incident, Begur Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar, who received the information through wireless, chased the accused and caught them. Nanjangud Circle Inspector Mahesh Kumar, after completing the investigation, had submitted the charge-sheet to the Court.

Senior Civil Judge and JMFC Court Judge B.V. Devamaane, who heard the arguments on Nov.24, found the accused guilty of the crime and pronounced the judgment. Assistant Public Prosecutor P. Nagaraju argued for the Government.
