Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has begun the process of restoring the damaged portions of the heritage Chamaraja Wadiyar Circle on Albert Victor Road, facing the North Gate of the Mysore Palace.
A speeding vehicle had recently hit the Circle compound and damaged the lamp post and railings. The damage came to light when District Heritage Committee members were surveying the condition of heritage Circles. Later, the Committee members informed Mayor Shivakumar who had directed the MCC engineers and staff to take up the restoration works on priority.
The MCC staff and workers led by the engineers began the work on the iron railings attached to the steps first. The iron barricades had been damaged due to the impact of the accident along with the nearby ornate pillar. MCC sources said that after the restoration works, the white marble statue will be cleaned so that the vehicle smoke soot accumulated on it is washed off.
Bird droppings on the heritage structure too will be cleaned and a granite slab on one of the steps that has slid away will be restored to its original shape. The structure was built between 1902-1903 by the then Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar to commemorate the rule of Chamaraja Wadiyar X.
