Mysuru: With the State Assembly polls just a couple of months away, Veerashaiva-Lingayat community leaders of Chamundeshwari Assembly segment held a meeting at Basava Kendra in Agrahara here recently to discuss the political scenario in the district.
Addressing the meeting, Bogadi Nandeesh said that Chamundeshwari constituency has turned out to be a prestigious Assembly segment as CM Siddharamaiah has declared that he would contest from here.
Recalling the 2006 Chamundeshwari by-poll, he said that the BJP-JD(S) candidate Someshwara Shivabasappa, a Veerashaiva-Lingayat candidate, lost by a slender margin. But now the scenario is totally different and CM Siddharamaiah may find the going extremely tough for him in the forthcoming Assembly polls.
The BJP should take note of the CM’s uncomfortable situation in the constituency and the party should make best use of it by fielding a popular Veerashaiva-Lingayat candidate, he said.
Pointing out that late M. Rajashekar Murthy, A.S. Guruswamy and Someshwara Shivabasappa had fought the elections from Chamundeshwari constituency, he reiterated that the BJP should field a candidate from the community in order to defeat the CM. Leaders Diddahalli Mahesh, Shambu Patel, Basavaraj and others were present.
