Sir,
It is heartening to see numerous volunteers and organisations putting in genuine efforts to clean the Chamundi Hill steps and surroundings. Their commitment to protecting the environment is truly admirable.
However, it is disheartening to observe that within days, the Hill is once again strewn with litter. These recurring clean-up drives lose their value when self-discipline is missing among visitors.
To bring lasting change, steps such as strict enforcement of plastic bans, prohibition of single-use plastic sales on the Hill, installation of prominent display boards, regular educational drives for pilgrims and tourists, and penalties for littering are essential.
Moreover, issues like no proper cleanliness in the surroundings, improper disposal of food waste and the absence of dustbins in many areas also require immediate attention.
With Dasara round the corner, let us ensure Chamundi Hill remains a sacred and eco-friendly space, not just through clean-up events, but through continuous care and responsible action.
