Check-posts at villages; borders on high alert

Travellers being screened at Bavali Check-Post this morning. This Check-Post connects Mysuru and Kerala.

Most cases come from borders as infections spike in other States: CM

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai yesterday said check-posts will be set up in places where there are village-to-village contacts between Karnataka and neighbouring States. He also said the Police Stations under the jurisdiction will be responsible for such check-posts.

All the existing borders will be secured and personnel will be increased. Entry will be allowed only after RT-PCR tests and also after checking double dose vaccination. Police, Health and Revenue Officers and staff will be deployed at check-posts on the National Highways and major roads and officers will man minor roads by putting up barricades and posting personnel who will monitor movement of vehicles, he added.

“Our experiences since the first and second wave have been that the infections in Karnataka rise whenever COVID-19 cases spiral in our neighbouring States, with whom we have daily business activities. We have to focus on that area,” Bommai said.

When asked about laxity in  border regions, the CM said the border is vast and checking is happening at the main check-posts only. However, there are contacts with neighbouring States at the village level. “Today, I am going to issue a direction to hold Police Stations responsible for places where there is village-to-village contact. We will set up check-posts there and deploy people,” he said.
