Children’s Day Out at Rail Museum

Mysuru: South Western Railway, Mysuru Division,  had organised a heritage walk for school children in the age group of 10 to 12 years at Mysuru Rail Museum recently as  part of the month-long heritage events being held all over Indian Railways.

The event was flagged of by Mysuru Division, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Aparna Garg. Children from Boys Government School, Yadavagiri, Mathrumandali School and Lalitha School, along with few children with special needs took part in this event organised to create awareness about rich heritage and history of Indian Railways as well as an education-cum-fun trip for children.

The event involved a walk across vintage exhibits like locomotives, saloons, equipment etc.  A free ride in the toy train, a goody bag, free caps and customised activity chart in which they could take the memories of the day back home was arranged.  

Two digital kiosks were placed in which film on evolution of Railways was shown to the children.  About 80 children in 4 batches participated in the activites.

Ashish Gundal, R. Prasad and the team of staff conducted the event at the Museum which is one of the oldest Railway Museums with rare collection of narrow and meter gauge steam locomotives, Maharani Saloon and much more.  The Rail Museum will undergo renovation and improvement as the work is already sanctioned for this, according to a press release from Dr. S.G. Yatish, Sr.Divisional Commercial Manager and PRO.
