Mysuru: “India has been adjudged as the best country to utilise space technology for the benefit of people” said A.S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation.
He was delivering the valedictory address of the State-level 25th National Children’s Science Congress organised by Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat (KRVP) in association with Balavikasa Academy, Dharwar at Senate Bhavan at Manasagangothri yesterday.
Kiran Kumar said that space technology in India had helped agriculture and meteorological departments and added that Chandrayan-1 had explored moon and detected water droplets on lunar surface. He asked inquisitive children to explore science and acquire knowledge. He added that such a behaviour would nurture youth to become innovative in future.
Presenting the young Scientist of State Award to A.S. Adarsh of Dakshina Kannada, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait said that the government was planning to impart education in schools through Edusat, the education satellite. He added that science Centres would be opened at all the four divisions of the State. He advised parents and teachers to motivate children in innovative fields instead of just focussing on marks in examinations.

The State Young Scientist -2017 A.S.Adarsh is a 8th standard student of Indraprasta Vidyalaya of Uppinangadi in Dakshina Kannada District. His science model “Anamirta Cococulus”, an effective remedy for insect control, at the conference got him the award. He is the son of agriculturist Anand Pujari and Shoba, a lecturer in Political Science. K.K. Nishehita, a teacher of the same school was adjuged as the Model Teacher.
