Christmas cheer begins at St. Philos

Mysuru: The festive spirit of Christmas came alive at St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysuru, as the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management organised a grand cake-mixing ceremony at the Department recently.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the management, staff and students.

Speaking on the occasion, Rector Manager Fr. Lourdu Prasad expressed delight at the initiative, calling it a cheerful prelude to the Christmas season. “The cake-mixing ceremony symbolises the values of joy, unity diligence and camaraderie,”  he remarked.

College Principal Dr. Ravi J.D. Saldanha highlighted the significance of the tradition, emphasising its role in fostering a sense of togetherness and community spirit, while extending heartfelt goodwill and best wishes for the festive season.

Assistant Professor and Head of Bakery Division C.V. Ranjith elaborated on the intricate cake- mixing process, offering valuable insights into the precise selection and preparation of ingredients.

The event featured a vibrant display of 600 kilograms of assorted dry fruits, including cashew nuts, almonds, dates, cherries, raisins, ginger peel, orange rind, lemon rind and tutti-frutti, which were beautifully arranged, adding a festive charm. This mix is set to produce an impressive 2,000 kg of cakes.

The ceremony was attended by Campus Administrator Fr. Jnana Pragasam, Assistant to Rector Fr. David Saghayaraj, St. Philomena’s PU College Principal Sunil D’Souza, PG Studies and Research Centre Coordinator Dr. C.A. Noor Mubasheer, Controller of Examinations Dr. Reena Francis, Vice-Principal (Academic) Nagaraj Urs, IQAC Coordinator Thomas Gunasheelan, Head of BBATHM Paul, Assistant Professor Rini Brown, along with faculty members and enthusiastic students from both Post-Graduate and Under-Graduate programmes.
