University of Mysore (UoM) athlete M.R. Dhanusha has been selected to participate in the World University Games to be held in Italy from July 3 to 14.
She has the distinction of being selected as the first athlete from UoM (in its more than hundred-year history) to participate in the World University Games. Trained at Youth Empowerment and Sports Department’s Sports Hostel in Mysuru, she is studying in second year BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) at Basudeva Somani College.
Dhanusha, a resident of K.R. Nagar in the District, is the daughter of auto driver Manju and home-maker M.B. Rukmini.
The World University Games will be held in Naples, Italy and along with Dhanusha four others from Karnataka have been selected. A total of 40 athletes from different parts of the country will be representing the nation.
Dhanusha, who wants to win gold for her country, has participated in more than 30 nationals, 50 State events and hundreds of district-level heptathlon events, which is a track of events that consists of seven combined events, which include 100 metre hurdles, 200 metre dash, 800 metre run, high jump, shot put, long jump and javelin throw.
Felicitation: Dhanusha was felicitated at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in city on Wednesday by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports Assistant Director K. Suresh, coaches, staff and other athletes, who wished her good luck.
