Mysuru – Christian brethren across the city celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday today. Families commonly celebrate with dinner, Easter-egg hunts, chocolate bunnies and candies.
Christians around the world marked the Holy Week, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, leading up to his resurrection on Easter. The celebrations open with the Easter Vigil Mass that began on Holy Saturday evening. According to Christian faith, Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday, symbolising death is not the end but rather a new beginning.
Special prayers were held at various churches across the city where priests led the sermons. Thousands of devouts attended the midnight mass and other prayer services. Prayers that began across churches last night continued till about 11 am today.
The main celebration in city was at St. Joseph’s Cathedral (St. Philomena’s Church) where Mysuru Bishop Most Rev. Fr. K.A. William led the prayers.
Prayers began yesterday night with different sessions in Kannada, English and Tamil. The Bishop also sang songs along with the crowd that praised Jesus Christ. In his sermon, the Bishop called upon the community members to shun the path of violence and hatred and follow the path of love and universal brotherhood.
At the CSI Wesley Cathedral opposite Sub-urban Bus Stand, prayers were led by Rev. Gurushanth. Along with prayers at the church, priests visited homes and delivered prayers.
At St. Bartholomew’s Church, Rev. Gilbert Devaprasad led the prayers. At Hardwicke Church on Vani Vilas Road, Rev. Victor led the mass, at Sawdey Church, Mandi Mohalla, Rev Osmand Shiri led the services and at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church, Fr. James led the prayers.
